5 Rainy Day Movies Led By Women

Summer is here, meaning everlasting sunshine, or, if you're from the east coast (especially you, Florida) that means everlasting rain with some rare sightings of the sun. So for those of us on the east coast getting ready to cozy up with a blanket and a good movie, here are five of our favorite rainy day movies led by women:

1) the edge of seventeen(2016)

Life is hard. Life is even harder when you’re Nadine Franklin (Hailee Steinfeld), an awkward teen who just does not fit in with her generation. Thankfully, Nadine has her best friend Krista (Haley Lu Richardson) to help her through the turmoil of high school and growing up. When Krista forms a romantic connection with Nadine’s older brother Darien, Nadine must face her insecurities and deepest fears alone.

2) my girl (1991)

Vada Sultenfuss (Anna Chlumsky) is working her way through her life, but things are not going according to plan. Her funeral home running father has a new girlfriend, her best friend Thomas J(Macaulay Culkin) is a boy who doesn’t understand her, and she’s got major a crush on her English teacher. During summer break Vada and Thomas J figure out what it means to be a pre-teen in an unpredictable world.

3) someone great (2019)

Jenny (Gina Rodriguez), a music journalist and native New Yorker is offered her dream job...in San Francisco. To get the career of her dreams Jenny is forced to give up the man of her dreams, and their nine-year relationship. Before she gets on a plane to sunny California, Jenny, along with her friends Erin (DeWanda Wise) and Blair (Brittany Snow) have one more New York adventure by going to the epic Neon Classic concert at Sony Hall before moving on.

4) TO ALL THE BOYS IVE LOVED BEFORE(2018)

Lara-Jean Covey (Lana Condor) has a lot of feelings, too many feelings to keep inside. So, she gets rid of them by writing love letters. When five love letters she’s written to five previous crushes get sent, Lara-Jean must deal with the aftermath of her exposed feelings. This won’t be easy, since one of them is Peter Kavinsky, lacrosse player and boyfriend of Lara-Jean's arch nemesis.

5) Nappily ever after (2018)

Violet ( Sanaa Lathan) has a perfect life. She has a perfect look, a perfect job, and a perfect boyfriend. When a salon incident leads to Violet losing her hair, she must go on a journey of self-discovery, love, and re-evaluation to decide if perfection is truly what she wants, or, if she’s just trying to live up to someone else’s expectations.

Rain or shine, these women led films are major must-watch for any film fan.
